Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy released a new ad calling out Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) for violating his promise to protect Medicaid by voting to cut the program that tens of thousands of his constituents rely on. The ad features Westchester County mother and daughter Tina and Dee. Tina relies on Medicaid to provide care for her 102-year old mother Dee. Congressman Lawler’s cuts to Medicaid jeopardizes care for millions of Americans.
The ad comes just days before the end of Open Enrollment as millions of New Yorkers who rely on ACA marketplace health care have seen sky-high health insurance cost increases in 2026.
“Congressman Mike Lawler voted for the largest Medicaid cut in history, jeopardizing care for New York families like Tina and Dee,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Congressman Lawler and his Republican colleagues gave even more tax breaks to billionaires while forcing New Yorkers to pay more for health care. His constituents are going to continue to hold him accountable for putting billionaires over working New York families.”

Ad transcript:
My mom Dee is 102 years old.
She can live on her own because Medicaid pays for the care she needs.
Without Medicaid, my mother would lose her independence.
And our family would need to make completely different plans about our lives.
But Congressman Mike Lawler voted for the biggest Medicaid cuts in history.
Why? To give billionaires another tax break.
Seniors like my mom can’t afford these Medicaid cuts.
Call Congressman Mike Lawler.
Tell him to stop cutting Medicaid.
