Republicans’ Job Approval Under Water As They Prepare to Give More Tax Breaks to Billionaires
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Despite growing anger regarding Republicans’ handling of the economy, President Trump and congressional Republicans are continuing to double down on their plan to give millionaires and billionaires another giant tax break and make working families foot the bill. In fact, Americans’ approval of President Trump’s handling of the economy hit an all-time low, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. Republicans in Congress are also facing significant backlash, with a recent job approval poll showing that only 26% of Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ (IA-01) constituents approve of her work in Congress, while 47% disapprove. Similarly, Congressman Zach Nunn (IA-03) only has a 32% approval rating versus a 46% disapproval.
This comes as members of Congress face increasing pressure back home. From hundreds of New Yorkers gathering outside Congressman Nick LaLota’s office on Long Island to petition delivery drives in Iowa, constituents all across the country are making their voices heard: They want their elected leaders to reject this pro-billionaire agenda.
“Instead of addressing Americans’ concerns about high prices, Republicans in Congress are moving ahead with their plans to give massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy while making working people’s lives even more expensive,” said Unrig Our Economy Spokesperson Kobie Christian. “These polls and the grassroots demonstrations we are seeing across the country show that everyday Americans do not want to pay for another billionaire giveaway with cost-raising tariffs and devastating funding cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. They want a government that will prioritize their needs over the desires of the ultra-rich.”
