House Republicans Release Their Pro-Billionaire Budget Resolution

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Republicans finally released their reconciliation budget resolution that the Budget Committee is scheduled to mark up tomorrow. This comes after weeks of constant pressure from the White House, a counter-proposal by the Republican-led Senate, constant infighting, and dozens of news stories about how their caucus can’t get anything done, Speaker Johnson and House GOP leadership finally settled on exactly how they want to make working- and middle-class families foot the bill for new tax breaks for billionaires and corporations.

House Republicans’ proposed budget would cause real-world harm to everyday Americans. Among other things, their budget resolution calls for drastic cuts to programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that millions of Americans rely on every day for health care and to put food on the table. At the same time, it proposes trillions of dollars in tax breaks targeted to benefit the ultra-rich.

“A budget reveals more about what you value than your words. Today, House Republicans showed us that what they value is more tax breaks for greedy billionaires and giant corporations with everyday people paying the price,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “At a time when everyday Americans face increasingly higher prices, Speaker Johnson and his stooges want to write billionaires a check and force working-class people to foot the bill for their outrageous tax breaks for corporations and the ultra-wealthy. Everyday Americans will not stand for these games — it’s time for Republicans in Congress to end their campaign that puts the ultra-wealthy first on the backs of the rest of us. ”
