UNRIG OUR TAXES
Working people are sick of our rigged system and demand change.
What is the Republican Tax Law?
In 2017, Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration passed the Republican Tax Law, which gave record-breaking tax breaks to the wealthiest individuals and biggest corporations, and did next to nothing for working people.
Over the last few years, some of these same corporations that got big tax breaks have been jacking up prices for everyday people and raking in record-breaking profits.
For example, AT&T's effective tax rate dropped 10% after the Republican Tax Law took effect
Before the 2017 Republican Tax Law, AT&T’s effective tax rate was 13%. After the law took effect, it dropped to less than 3%, saving them $10 billion in taxes from 2018 to 2022. Over that same period, AT&T has raked in $96.3 billion in profits, but instead of investing in their employees and lowering prices, AT&T hiked prices and paid their top executives tens of millions each year while laying off 40 percent of its employees in just 6 years.
Now, many of the Republican Tax Law’s provisions are set to expire after 2025
With control of all three branches of government, Trump and congressional Republicans are planning to extend the law and give EVEN MORE tax handouts to corporations and the ultra-wealthy, while putting key programs like Social Security, Medicare, and affordable health care at risk and leaving everyday people to foot the bill.
It’s simple: Extending the Republican Tax Law will make the rich even richer. Continuing to give tax breaks to corporations rewards them for price-gouging our families.
Why We’re Fighting Back
Working people are sick of our rigged system and demand that Congress stand with working people and against corporate greed by opposing the extension of the Republican Tax Law.
Republicans in Congress are going to spin their message to make the Republican Tax Law sound like it is good for working people. But we know the truth: Extending the Republican Tax Law will make the rich richer while leaving working people behind.
Congress could pass a fairer tax code that makes corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share and use that money to invest in things working families need like lower costs, retirement security, affordable health care, and so much more.
