Washington D.C — Last night, Democrats in Washington offered their own proposal to keep the government open while stopping increases in health insurance premiums for working-class families and reversing Republicans’ massive cuts to Medicaid. But, apparently, helping people afford their health care is a “nonstarter” for Republicans in Congress. They would rather shut down the government to protect their billionaire-first agenda than support their own constituents who rely on health care tax credits, Medicaid, and more.
“There should be nothing controversial about this proposal to keep the government open and keep Americans on their health care, but, apparently, if it isn’t about giving the ultra-rich another tax break, Republicans in Congress aren’t interested,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Every day that Congress does not take action to prevent increases in health insurance premiums, more and more Americans are at risk of facing higher health care costs and losing coverage. It’s time that congressional Republicans come to the table and find a solution to help all Americans, not just the ultra-wealthy.”
