Washington D.C — Today, Republicans in Congress forced the federal government into a shutdown – all because they are refusing to protect Americans from higher health care costs under their billionaire-first agenda.
Instead of working to extend the health care tax credits that help millions of American families afford coverage, or reversing their devastating Medicaid cuts, Republicans chose to shut down the government. This comes as American families are already struggling with higher grocery and utility costs from Republican-backed tariffs. Now, this government shutdown could create even more financial uncertainty, including missed paychecks for military service members and potential delays in Social Security and Medicare services.
“Let’s be 100% clear. Republicans had a choice: protect health care for millions of Americans or shut down the government,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Under Republican leadership, billionaires get tax breaks, while working families get stuck with higher and higher costs.
