Republicans Keep Jeopardizing Americans’ Health Care, Continue To Block An Extension of Cost-Saving Health Care Tax Credits

Washington D.C — Republicans are doubling down on their effort to end ACA tax credits that help millions of Americans afford health care, with President Trump even calling efforts to extend them a waste of time. Now, with open enrollment underway, millions of Americans are staring down the barrel of skyrocketing monthly premiums.

Republicans in Congress spent most of the year rushing to slash health care to pay for permanent billionaire tax breaks. And now, they are playing political games while access to health care for millions hangs in the balance. The situation  is clear: either Republicans stand with working families and extend the ACA tax credits, or they side with billionaires and allow millions of Americans’ premiums to skyrocket or even lose coverage entirely.

Failing to extend the ACA tax credits means allowing millions of Americans’ health care costs to climb higher and higher,” said Unrig Our Economy Managing Director Katie Gladstone. “Americans are already reeling from soaring costs, Trump’s tariffs, and massive GOP cuts to Medicaid and SNAP that fund tax breaks for billionaires. They cannot afford another Republican attack on their health care. It’s time for congressional Republicans to stop playing political games and support the discharge petition effort to extend the ACA tax credits.”
