Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) is doubling down on raising working families’ costs and taking food assistance away from millions. During the House Agriculture Committee’s markup of the Republican Farm Bill this week, Congressman Bresnahan voted against reversing President Trump’s cuts to healthy, local food for children in schools, while also doubling down on historic SNAP cuts that have made it harder for families in Pennsylvania and across the country to put food on the table.
Congressman Bresnahan voted against restoring funding for the Local Food for Schools Program (LFS), which provided funding for schools to purchase healthy and locally sourced food for kids, hurting access to nutritious food for children and taking revenue from local farmers.
He also continued his attacks on working families’ food assistance by voting against undoing the historic cuts to SNAP he and his Republican colleagues made in last year’s Republican Tax Law — which puts benefits at risk for an estimated four million Americans, including over 140 thousand Pennsylvanians, in order to provide tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.
Other amendments Congressman Bresnahan voted against included:
- Protecting veterans from Republicans’ harsh SNAP eligibility requirements, taking away food access for those who have served
- Providing much-needed support to farmers and families suffering under the tariffs that Bresnahan has repeatedly voted to support
- Providing funding to rural hospitals facing revenue losses as a result of the Medicaid and Medicare cuts in the Republican Tax Law
