Washington D.C — On Wednesday, the Trump administration has asked Congress for an additional $67 billion to pay for the war in Iran, which has already increased the financial burden on American households. Instead of helping lower costs for working people, congressional Republicans have already supported policies that cut programs millions rely on, including Medicaid, ACA tax credits, and SNAP. Now, they face another choice: whether to approve tens of billions more in spending for their expensive and unnecessary war while Americans continue to shoulder high costs.
“Working families are paying more every time they check out at the grocery store, fill up at the gas pump, or pay their monthly bills,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Congressional Republicans have already made life more expensive by raising prices and cutting programs families count on. Now they must decide whether they’ll vote to spend even more taxpayer money on a war that has cost American households an average of at least $470 in additional energy expenses. Congressional Republicans should reject these misplaced priorities and put working families first.”
