Hear From House Republicans’ Constituents On The Hill Today Opposing House Passage Of Dangerous Budget Resolution

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Republicans voted to pass a second version of a budget resolution that sets up huge cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP while handing out massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. More than 70 million people rely on Medicaid for their health care and over 40 million Americans depend on SNAP to feed their families. Republicans in Congress are endangering the livelihoods of everyday families to give trillions of dollars in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.

This tax plan that Republicans in Congress are advancing threatens to increase costs for working- and middle-class families. These very same Republicans are also refusing to halt President Trump’s disastrous cost-raising tariffs that are torching the U.S. economy. This is a devastating double whammy on our economy, enabled by Republicans in Congress – all to give their billionaire buddies another handout.

“Without Medicaid, I would not be able to afford the treatment that I need for my personal health care,” said Omaha, NE resident Jennifer Reyna (NE-02). “Medicaid is the reason that I am able to afford health care, and it allows me to take care of my family without having to sacrifice my health. The fact that Republicans in Congress are willing to strip me and millions of Americans of our health care is horrific enough, but to see our tax dollars go straight into the pockets of the ultra-rich is unconscionable and wrong. We need our members of Congress to stand up for us, not billionaires.”

“Cutting food assistance won’t just harm working- and middle-class Americans that need it most, it will have countless ripple effects that harm everyday farmers like me,” said farmer and small business owner Tony Thompson in IA-03. “Taking away this benefit will force families to go hungry and undermine the viability of small family farms. The ONLY ones that benefit are millionaires and billionaires. We need our members of Congress to defend the needs of everyday Americans, not the ultra-wealthy.”

“At a time when families are still struggling to put food on the table and the economy is in shambles, House Republicans are choosing to line the pockets of the ultra-wealthy,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Instead of addressing the affordability crisis in America, House Republicans have voted – yet again – to double down on their pro-billionaire agenda. Instead of halting tariffs, they are threatening to rip away people’s health care. Instead of helping Americans afford groceries, they are pushing to gut SNAP, forcing hundreds of thousands to go hungry. Fundamentally, Republicans’ plan trades our well-being for another massive handout to their billionaire buddies. Who were congressional Republicans looking out for today? Certainly not working families.”
