HOUSE RECESS RECAP: Communities Nationwide Demand Congressional Republicans Prioritize Working Families Over Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Local rallies and town halls highlight the growing frustration with the GOP pro-billionaire agenda

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congress returns to Washington after two weeks of recess. While they were gone, thousands of people nationwide rose up to demand answers from congressional Republicans who are pushing forward with massive tax breaks for the wealthy paid for by gutting programs working families rely on such as Medicaid and SNAP.

“Kicking families off Medicaid and SNAP and raising costs on working people to hand out more tax breaks to billionaires is just plain wrong,” said Kobie Christian, spokesperson for Unrig Our Economy. “Americans made themselves very clear during recess. They are sick of seeing their representatives ignore their needs while bending over backwards to help the ultra-wealthy. Republicans in Congress need to start listening to the people they were elected to serve—not their billionaire donors.”

Below is recent coverage of community members rising up to stop this pro-billionaire agenda during the House’s recess:
