Washington, D.C. — Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) hasn’t always said what he means. When he said, “I am committed to not cutting Medicaid,” he really meant…no more than $500 billion in cuts to Medicaid. Or at least that’s what he claims is his red line. Would Congressman Bacon really go against his own word and vote for a bill that:
- Cuts Medicaid by more than $600 billion (that’s way above his red line!)
- Kicks 10 million people, including as many as 57,000 Nebraskans, off Medicaid
- Leaves more than 13.7 million people uninsured?
Just look at his commitments on SNAP. Congressman Bacon said the House Agriculture Committee should only consider $100 billion in cuts to SNAP, before he…voted last week for a bill that cuts three times that amount and could leave nearly 11 million people, including thousands of families with children in his district, without enough food on the table. Will he vote again this week for massive SNAP cuts?
We might need Congressman Bacon to clarify some things…
“Assuming Congressman Bacon truly meant what he said, he should openly oppose this plan to take away health care and food to fund more billionaire tax breaks,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “So, Congressman, let’s clear this up – are you for working-class Nebraskans or a handful of billionaires who want another tax break?”
