Washington, D.C.Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) declared “We need to make sure we also are protecting Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security for their intended beneficiaries.” Well, today, he did the exact opposite and voted for a Republican tax bill that would:

  • Cut Medicaid by nearly $700 billion
  • Kick up to 386,000 New Jerseyans, including seniors, veterans, and kids off Medicaid, and leave 15 million without health insurance nationwide
  • Funnel massive new tax breaks to billionaires and corporations

“I rely on Medicaid. My kids rely on Medicaid. Without it, any unexpected illness or procedure could put us deeply in debt – or worse,” said Theresa Luoni from Basking Ridge, NJ. “Congressman Tom Kean Jr.’s vote to cut Medicaid feels like a knife in the back to families like mine. He promised to protect Medicaid coverage, but decided billionaires needed another tax cut instead.”

“Every single person kicked off their coverage, every parent struggling to pay medical bills, every senior forced to skip prescriptions because of this bill—that’s on Congressman Kean Jr.,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Congressman Kean Jr. just effectively told hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans that their health care doesn’t matter. He promised them that he would protect Medicaid. Then he turned around and voted to gut it—all to give billionaires a fat tax break. It’s not just a betrayal, it’s a disgrace.”
