Washington, D.C. — New polling from the Washington Post, KFF, and Navigator Research shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans are against the Republican Tax Scam passed by House Republicans late last month. Instead of listening to the American people’s complete rejection of cutting SNAP, ripping health insurance away from millions, and killing clean energy manufacturing jobs, Senate Republicans doubled down and released their version of the tax scam which would take Medicaid away from even more Americans and put hundreds of rural hospitals at risk of closing – all so that they can give more tax breaks to billionaires.
Here are some of the takeaways from the latest polling:
- By nearly a 2-1 margin, Americans are against the Republican Tax Scam
- 70% don’t want elected officials to give more tax breaks to the ultra-rich, including 51% of Republicans
- 83% of Americans have a favorable opinion of Medicaid
- 60% of Americans believe the bill is more about ‘taking health coverage away from people who need it’ more than reducing fraud and waste
- A majority of Americans believe the bill would negatively impact them
“The American people have been clear for months about what they think of this tax scam – they don’t want Medicaid, SNAP, and access to a decent hospital taken away from them so that a few billionaires can get another taxpayer-funded handout,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Instead of ignoring the American people and doubling down on their pro-billionaire agenda, Senate Republicans should try listening to and fighting for the working families they are supposed to represent.”
