BREAKING: Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks Used Taxpayer Money to Rent Pharma Lobbyists’ D.C. Apartment

Washington, DC – A new report from Iowa Starting Line revealed that Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) used over $26,000 in taxpayer money to rent a Capitol Hill apartment from two lobbyists for Big Pharma for over a year. This is clearly a pattern for Congresswoman Miller-Meeks. In 2022, she accepted money from a top insulin manufacturer the same day that she voted against capping the price of insulin and allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. She has received over a quarter of a million dollars from the pharmaceutical industry since taking office.

This isn’t the only time Congresswoman Miller-Meeks voted to put the ultra-wealthy over the needs of her constituents. Last year, she voted for the Republican Tax Law, which gave billionaires and companies, including Big Pharma, more tax breaks – all while cutting Iowans’ health care. She also voted to end the ACA tax credits, kicking even more people off their health care and jacking up monthly premiums for millions of working families. Over 100,000 Iowans could lose their health insurance entirely thanks to Congresswoman Miller-Meeks and her Republican colleagues.

“Not only is Congresswoman Miller-Meeks in the pocket of Big Pharma, she was also, apparently, in their house,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “At a time when millions of working families are struggling to afford basic essentials like housing, groceries, and health care, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks is out here voting to cut vital programs like Medicaid, keep drug prices high, and leave over 100,000 Iowans without health care – all while voting to give tax breaks to corporations like Big Pharma and using taxpayer money to pay her lobbyist landlords. It’s simply outrageous.”
