BREAKING: Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks Votes to Raise Iowans’ Health Care Costs

Washington D.C — Today, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) voted to raise her constituents’ health care costs yet again. Over 100,000 Iowans relied on vital health care tax credits that made basic health insurance affordable, but late last year, Republicans in Congress, including Congresswoman Miller-Meeks, allowed them to expire. With her vote today, she doubled down on that effort. She voted to double many Iowans’ health care premiums at a time when tariffs are crushing families, grocery bills are through the roof, and cuts to Medicaid are threatening to leave millions uninsured.

Congresswoman Miller-Meeks’ vote today is a betrayal of her constituents. The cost of everything from groceries to electricity to health care is already too high, and now she is kicking her own constituents while they are down. She even criticized these tax credits, which help millions of people afford to see their doctor without going bankrupt, as a “bailout.” Rather than voting to make life less affordable and giving billionaires massive tax breaks, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks and her Republican colleagues should be making health care more affordable and standing up for working-class Americans – not the ultra-wealthy.

“By voting no on this bill, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks told tens of thousands of Iowans that they should have to choose between paying impossibly high health care costs or losing their coverage altogether,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “From her no vote today to voting for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks is making life even less affordable for Iowans at a time when the cost of living is soaring. We need Congresswoman Miller-Meeks and her colleagues to stop voting to cut Americans’ health care.”
