Washington, D.C — It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s actually American jobs numbers plummeting as the tariffs that congressional Republicans rubber-stamped wreak havoc on our economy.
Congressional Republicans blocked every effort to rein in President Trump’s destructive tariffs and now working families are paying the price.
Republican tariffs are increasing the price of toilet paper, washing detergent, clothing and sneakers, among other household necessities.
According to the newly launched DontInflateOurPlates.com website, which tracks price changes on every-day items, the price of beef in Texas (yes, Texas) has increased by 47% in the last 5 months alone.
Friday’s plummeting jobs numbers – and the news that the country created only 19,000 jobs in May and 14,000 in June – are the latest sign that the only people benefitting from the Republican economy are the billionaires who congressional Republicans just gave massive tax breaks to.
“Last month, Republicans cut our health care. This month, we learned they’re destroying our jobs,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “The Republican tariffs are raising costs, driving up unemployment, and taking money out of the pockets of working families already hit hard by Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Congressional Republicans had a chance to stop these tariffs before they hurt the American people. Sadly, they were too busy giving away tax breaks to billionaires.”
