BREAKING: Supreme Court Rolls Back Tariffs. But Republicans in Congress Are Still Pushing Their Cost-Raising Agenda

Washington D.C —Today, the Supreme Court did what congressional Republicans failed to do for months and rolled back most of Trump’s price-raising tariffs, which congressional Republicans repeatedly voted to uphold. But working families have still been forced to pay the cost of nearly a year’s worth of congressional Republican-endorsed tariffs – to help bankroll massive tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.

The result? Families paid more for nearly everything they buy. A new report shows that Americans shouldered 90% of the cost of tariffs, which drove up prices on everyday essentials – from food and furniture to clothing and electronics – making life harder for working-class Americans already struggling with high costs. In 2025 alone, the average family lost $1,000 because of Republican-backed tariffs. Despite this, nearly every Republican in Congress voted to keep President Trump’s Canada tariffs in place last week, once again voting for rising costs for their constituents. Even with today’s ruling, working families are still paying more for everyday goods thanks to additional tariffs and other Republican policies.

Sadly today’s ruling offers consumers no relief from the rest of congressional Republicans’ cost raising agenda, namely:

  • Massive SNAP cuts
  • Largest ever cuts to Medicaid
  • The Republican Tax Law’s driving up of electricity prices
  • The elimination of health care tax credits
  • Not to mention Trump’s tariffs on materials such as steel and aluminum that remain in place

“As a small business owner, the rising cost of materials and supplies driven by these tariffs has made it more expensive to do business,” said Alex, a carpenter who owns a small construction business in Mount Clemens, Michigan. “Higher input costs squeeze our margins and force us to rethink purchases, timelines, and investments we’d otherwise be making to grow. Republicans in Congress need to recognize that the tariffs they have repeatedly supported are hurting Michigan businesses, the people we employ, and the strength of our local economy.”

“Congressional Republicans own the price increases on groceries and other essentials caused by the tariffs they’ve repeatedly rubber stamped,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Even with today’s court ruling, working families are still paying more for food, health care, and electricity thanks to policies put forward by congressional Republicans. This affordability crisis will only get worse as long as Republicans in Congress continue to put billionaires first and working families last.”
