Washington, D.C. — The August inflation report makes one thing clear: Congressional Republican policies are wreaking havoc on the economy.
CNN reports that inflation accelerated in August because of Republican-backed tariffs—a “double whammy” for Americans who are not only struggling with rising costs but are dealing with a weakening job market caused by those same tariffs. Experts estimate that these Republican-backed tariffs have contributed to the loss of tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs.
To make matters worse, these dismal inflation numbers follow a blockbuster Yale Budget Lab report estimating that the Republican tariffs could push nearly 1 million Americans into poverty.
The evidence of tariff-driven economic harm is so stark that even Republican elected officials like Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE) and Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) are now admitting to reporters that ‘storm clouds are on the horizon’ over the economy and that tariffs are hurting manufacturers in their states.
“Congressional Republicans are driving up costs and destroying jobs by rubber-stamping tariffs that hurt working families,” said Unrig Our Economy Director Leor Tal. “To add insult to injury, the Republican Tax Law is set to raise energy and health care costs—all to fund even more tax breaks for the wealthy.
