Washington, DC — Congressional Republicans want Americans to know how proud they are of raising families’ costs and ripping away health care and food assistance from millions of people.
Nearly every House Republican just voted for a resolution doubling down on last year’s Republican Tax Law, which made the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in history to fund tax breaks for billionaires and corporations. While congressional Republicans are busy celebrating, they have put an estimated 15 million Americans at risk of losing health coverage and jeopardized SNAP benefits for an estimated 4 million Americans – so billionaires could get even bigger tax breaks. They’ve done all of this while backing tariffs and an unnecessary war in Iran which together are driving up the cost of basic necessities for working families nationwide.
“This vote is a slap in the face to every single family being stretched thin by Republicans’ pro-billionaire agenda. Costs are skyrocketing and millions are having their health care and food assistance ripped away. Instead of addressing the harm their policies are causing, Republicans in Congress are actively celebrating it,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “It’s long past time congressional Republicans focused on helping their constituents, not doubling down on cutting vital programs they rely on to give billionaires more tax breaks.”
