Washington, D.C. — Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) promised to protect Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and clean energy tax credits in reconciliation negotiations. Last month, his office even released a statement saying, “U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani is ramping up pressure to protect Medicaid” after he signed a letter with 12 of his colleagues promising not to vote for cutting Medicaid.
Well, today, he did the exact opposite and voted for a Republican tax bill that would:
- Cut Medicaid by nearly $700 billion
- Kick up to 445,000 Arizonans, including children, veterans, and seniors, off their coverage, and leave 15 million without health insurance nationwide
- Funnel massive new tax breaks to billionaires and corporations
“Every single person kicked off their coverage, every parent struggling to pay medical bills, every senior forced to skip prescriptions because of this bill—that’s on Congressman Ciscomani,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Congressman Ciscomani just effectively told hundreds of thousands of Arizonans that their health care doesn’t matter. He promised them that he would protect Medicaid, SNAP, and green energy tax credits. Then he turned around and voted to gut those same programs—all to give billionaires a fat tax break. It’s not just a betrayal, it’s a disgrace.”
