Washington, D.C. — Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) could not have been more clear when he said, “If a bill is put in front of me that guts the benefits my neighbors rely on, I will not vote for it.” Well, today, he did the exact opposite. Congressman Bresnahan just voted for a bill that would:
- Cut Medicaid by nearly $700 billion
- Kick up to 546,000 Pennsylvanians, including children, seniors, and veterans off their health care
- Slash SNAP by $300 billion, threatening food access for millions of families
- Funnel massive new tax breaks to billionaires and corporations
This comes less than a week after Bresnahan broke this same promise by voting to advance the largest SNAP cut in history out of the House Agriculture Committee.
“Congressman Bresnahan broke his promise to every working family in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “With his vote today, he told his fellow Pennsylvanians that he is willing to go against his word and slash Medicaid, rip food off families’ tables, and hand billions in tax breaks to people who will never have to worry about a grocery bill or a doctor’s visit in their lives. This was a vote to pull the rug out from under seniors, children, and working parents in NEPA just to give the already rich yet another payday.”
