By continuing to vote to support tariffs, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks is doubling down on raising costs for Iowans.
Washington, DC – Wednesday, Congresswoman Mariannette Miller–Meeks (IA-01) voted alongside almost all of her House Republican colleagues to keep President Trump’s tariffs on Canada in place, meaning she voted to keep costs higher for her constituents once again.
For the past year, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has supported tariffs, repeatedly voting to block any opportunity to stop them, even as they raise costs for her constituents and wreak havoc on Iowa’s farmers and manufacturers. On Wednesday, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks doubled down on this agenda by voting for Trump’s Canada tariffs, just days after a new report found that the tariffs overall directly cost American households $1,000 last year, with that number expected to increase this year.
“With her vote on Wednesday, Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has shown once again that she and her Republican colleagues are more concerned with delivering tax breaks to billionaires than relief to working Americans,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has repeatedly backed Trump’s harmful tariffs at a time when Iowans and Americans nationwide are already struggling with rising costs. It’s time she finally stands up for her constituents and stops voting to make their lives less affordable.”
