Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) has had a busy few days. Last week, in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, she voted in favor of the largest Medicaid cuts in history. This morning, she voted in favor of the Republican tax bill that now has even bigger Medicaid cuts, slashes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and guts cost-lowering clean energy tax credits.
“Every single person kicked off their coverage, every parent struggling to pay medical bills, every senior forced to skip prescriptions because of this bill—that’s on Congresswoman Miller-Meeks,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Congresswoman Miller-Meeks just effectively told Iowans that their health care doesn’t matter by voting to gut Medicaid along with SNAP and clean energy tax credits—all to give billionaires a fat tax break. It’s not just a betrayal, it’s a disgrace.”
