Despite President Trump’s Promises, Costs Rise While Republicans Move Forward with Plan For Tax Breaks to the Rich
Washington, D.C. — A new Consumer Price Index (CPI) report shows that annual inflation rose to 3% despite President Trump’s promise to bring down inflation on “day one.” Grocery prices in particular have skyrocketed, with the cost of eggs up 15.2% from December to January alone. Instead of lowering costs for families, Trump and Republicans in Congress have spent their time in power working to gut programs that make life more affordable for everyday Americans, including Medicaid, SNAP, and more. This comes as House Republicans released their blueprint for large tax breaks for billionaires and corporations paid for on the backs of working- and middle-class Americans.
“Today’s CPI report confirms what we already knew – families are still struggling with rising costs and Republicans are failing to deliver on President Trump’s promise to stop inflation,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Rather than help working people at the grocery store, gas station, or pharmacy, Republicans are instead doubling down on their number one priority: Raising the cost of goods and services through tariffs and cuts to health care and food assistance, while simultaneously looking out for their biggest supporters – multi-billionaires.”
