Republicans in Congress Are Feeling “Jittery” About the Economy Due to Tariffs They’ve Supported
Washington D.C — Following the latest jobs report, which showed weaker than expected job growth, Republicans in Congress are worried that their tariffs are hurting the U.S. economy. Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) even admitted that, “tariffs are a tax on the cost of a product, a good…A tax raises the cost of living for everybody.” Clearly, congressional Republicans know that these tariffs are a cost-raising tax on working-class people, yet they’ve still backed these tariffs, while cutting Medicaid and SNAP for working families and handing out tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.
“If Republicans’ tariffs were so good for the American people, why are congressional Republicans so worried about their impact on the economy?” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. Republican lawmakers know that these tariffs are a tax on working-class families, raising costs on everyday goods, killing jobs, and more. When they return from their month-long vacation, will Republicans finally change course and vote to end these tariffs, since – according to them – they are bad for the economy? If they truly want to support their constituents, and not just millionaires and billionaires, they should.”
