Washington, D.C. — A handful of small businesses and multiple state governments did something that Republicans in Congress chose not to do – they stood up against President Trump’s cost-raising tariffs and won.
Yesterday’s ruling by the Court of International Trade, which temporarily halted many of Trump’s tariffs, is a victory for working- and middle-class families that could provide relief to millions, but that doesn’t mean that President Trump is giving up on his cost-raising tariffs. In fact, Trump is already appealing the ruling. So, will Republicans in Congress follow these businesses’ lead and actually stand up for their constituents? Or will they continue to support Trump’s tariffs and hope the higher costs consumers pay fund their real passion – giving more tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires?
“Republicans in Congress love to talk about helping small businesses and working-class families – until it requires them to do something,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Small businesses shouldn’t have to go to court to fight Trump’s cost-raising tariffs – that should be on House Republicans, who promised to lower costs. Instead, they have supported Trump’s tariffs at every turn and advanced an agenda that will mean higher costs for their constituents. We need Congress to fight for working families, prevent additional tariffs, and reverse course on their pro-billionaire agenda.”
