Washington, D.C. — Today, President Trump is doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum from 25% to 50%, which will further jack up the price of everything from cars and canned food to home appliances and new construction. This comes after Walmart and Target began raising their prices due to Republicans’ chaotic tariff policy, which leaves working families to pay the price for more tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations.
Small businesses and state governments are fighting these tariffs in court, but Trump’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has made the administration’s intentions clear: “Tariffs are not going away.” But here’s the thing…Republicans in Congress could make them go away. Republicans have the power to overturn Trump’s tariffs any time they want to. Instead, they’ve chosen to endorse these tariffs and double down on their tax scam to give the ultra-wealthy a tax break by ripping away health care and food from millions.
