House Republicans Can’t Hide Their Support for Trump’s Costs-Raising Tariffs Anymore

Washington, DC – Nearly every House Republican voted to keep President Trump’s tariffs in place, meaning they, once again, voted to keep costs higher for their constituents. The Democratic-led resolution, which called for an end to U.S. tariffs on Canada, passed in the House despite widespread Republican opposition.

For the past year, Republicans in Congress have supported these tariffs, repeatedly voting to block any opportunity to stop them. Meanwhile, tariffs have wrought havoc on small businesses, drastically harmed American farmers, drained people’s wallets, and have become deeply unpopular with the American public. Yet, when presented with an opportunity to rebuke these tariffs, Republicans still voted in favor of them.

Following this vote, House Democrats are planning to introduce more resolutions to stop Trump’s tariffs, so Republicans in Congress need to decide – will they start standing up for their constituents, or will they continue to raise costs on working families to give tax breaks to billionaires?

“Republicans in Congress have backed these tariffs for over a year, and this vote further cements the fact that Republicans are responsible for actively making life less affordable for tens of millions of Americans,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “They continue to support tariffs that are raising costs at a time when working families are already struggling with affordability. Republicans in Congress have no place to hide – they are responsible for these tariffs, the American people know it, and they are angry.”
