Washington D.C — Today, House Republicans voted for a budget resolution that greenlights over $60 billion to pay for Republicans’ war in Iran, even as millions of Americans continue to struggle with higher costs. The Iran war has already cost Americans over $1,100 on average and continues to push up the price of gas, groceries, and more. At the same time, millions are losing access to health care coverage, seeing their monthly premiums skyrocketing, and losing access to SNAP thanks to Republicans in Washington. House Republicans saw all of that, and still voted to hand over billions more in taxpayer dollars to fund this unnecessary war.
“Once again, Republicans in Congress chose to put their unnecessary war in Iran over the American people,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “It is unconscionable that any member of Congress would vote to put a cent of taxpayer money towards this war that is raising Americans’ costs and costing servicemembers their lives. By voting for this budget resolution, Republicans are saying that this war is more important than lowering Americans’ costs. It’s time for Republicans in Congress to put an end to this seemingly endless war.”
