Washington D.C — Today marks one month until vital health care tax credits are set to expire. Unless Republicans in Congress change course and extend these tax credits, over 20 million Americans will see their monthly premiums skyrocket and millions could lose access to health care coverage entirely. This looming threat comes as Trump’s tariffs continue to jack up prices on basic necessities, and the Republican Tax Law is already forcing health clinics to shut down in areas that need them most. Health charities are also sounding the alarm, saying that medical debt will be out of control and more people could die unnecessarily if Congress fails to extend health care tax credits.
“This is just the latest chapter in congressional Republicans’ years-long assault on Americans’ health care,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Republicans in Congress should not only extend these health care tax credits; They should vote to support a discharge petition, which calls for a three-year extension to these tax credits. Anything less is a choice to raise health care costs, strip millions of people of their coverage, and deepen America’s ongoing health care crisis.”
