Washington D.C — Unrig Our Economy has released a new ad calling out Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) for allowing the government to shut down. Earlier this year, Congressman Lawler promised again and again that he wouldn’t vote to cut Medicaid, and then voted for those cuts anyway – all to give more tax breaks to billionaires. Now, he shut down the government instead of preventing health care costs from skyrocketing for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who rely on vital health care tax credits to afford their coverage.
Unrig Our Economy’s latest ad features Wendy, a resident of Putnam County and constituent of Congressman Lawler. She takes care of her adult son, Gabriel, who has autism and relies on Medicaid. In the ad, she expresses her frustration that Congressman Lawler promised not to cut Medicaid, yet voted for massive cuts that could affect her son’s care. The ad urges Congressman Lawler to stop making health care more expensive and end the government shutdown. And, if his social media posts are any indication, Congressman Lawler has already seen the ad.
