New Ad: New Jersey Family Says They Can’t Keep Up with Rising Health Care Costs that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. Voted For

Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy released a new ad featuring Ed and Karen, residents of Flemington, New Jersey struggling with rising health care costs as the Republican Tax Law that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) voted for continues to raise costs for working families.

In the ad, Ed and Karen talk about the strain that higher health care costs place on families as Republicans in Congress cut health care and rising premium, copay, and medication costs hurt families across New Jersey.

The ad comes as New Jersey hospitals warn that they are headed toward a “fiscal abyss” thanks to the “dire impacts” of the Republican Tax Law that Congressman Kean Jr. voted for. New Jerseyans on the state’s health insurance marketplace saw their premiums rise by roughly 174% on average.

“Ed and Karen’s story reflects the pain being inflicted on New Jersey families thanks to the Republican Tax Law and higher health care costs that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. voted for,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Families in New Jersey need lower premiums and affordable health care. But Congressman Kean Jr.’s vote made it harder for families to afford the care they need.”

Ad transcript:

Ed: We worked hard raising kids, paying our bills.

Karen: Now our health care costs are going up fast.

Ed: It’s not just premiums. It’s co-pays. It’s medication.

Karen: We’re working as hard as ever. But we feel like we just can’t keep up.

Ed: On top of all of that, I was shocked to learn that there’s a law in Washington that raises health care costs to give tax breaks to billionaires.

Karen: And that our Congressman Tom Kaine Jr. voted for it.

Ed: Higher health care costs make things harder for everyone.
