Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy released a new ad calling out Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) for voting to cut Medicaid so he could give millionaires and billionaires yet another tax break. Earlier this year, Congressman Bresnahan promised his constituents that Republicans in Congress “are not going to gut Medicaid.” Just months later, he voted for the largest Medicaid cut in history. The ad comes amidst a health care crisis, caused by congressional Republicans’ refusal to protect millions of Americans from higher premiums and extend vital health care tax credits.
Unrig Our Economy’s latest ad features Roxanne, a Swoyersville resident and constituent of Congressman Bresnahan, whose dad has relied on Medicaid for care to recover from a catastrophic fall. In the ad, Roxanne discusses how Medicaid is a lifeline for her family, allowing her father to receive care that her family otherwise may not be able to provide.
“Congressman Rob Bresnahan voted to cut funding for Pennsylvania hospitals and Pennsylvanians’ Medicaid. Now he’s helping Washington Republicans keep the government closed rather than extend life-saving health care tax credits,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “He’s betrayed people like Roxanne whose family relies on the health care that Congressman Bresnahan is so willing to rip away from his constituents. Congressman Bresnahan needs to protect Pennsylvanians’ health care, not tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.”

My dad is 88 years old.
8 months ago he had a terrible fall.
He needs constant care that I could no longer provide.
The majority of that is paid for by Medicaid.
Medicaid in my opinion is a lifeline for us.
If Medicaid goes away, I don’t know what the alternative’s gonna be.
I’m very disappointed in Representative Rob Bresnahan
for voting against Medicaid to help benefit billionaires.
I just wish that Representative Bresnahan would be a representative for the people
in this area and understand that he needs to protect the people he represents.
