Washington, DC – Today, Unrig Our Economy released a new ad calling out Senator Susan Collins (ME) for voting against capping the cost of insulin and allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices. In the ad, Melanie, a registered nurse in Maine, details how Senator Collins voted to protect Big Pharma and keep life-saving drugs like insulin unaffordable.
The ad highlights Senator Collins’ vote against the Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered prescription drug prices, including by letting Medicare negotiate lower drug prices and capping the cost of insulin. Her vote came after she took nearly $500,000 from the pharmaceutical industry.
“Senator Susan Collins betrayed working Mainers by voting against lowering the cost of prescription drugs they need, putting Melanie’s patients and millions more at risk,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “People across the country are struggling to keep up with soaring health care costs because Republicans in Congress continue to prioritize the profits of billionaires and corporations over the care of the people they represent. It’s long past time Senator Collins stopped siding with Big Pharma and started making health care more affordable for Mainers.”

Ad transcript:
As a nurse, I can tell you exactly what happens when people can’t afford insulin –
They don’t take enough of it, and it puts their lives at risk.
So when Susan Collins took nearly $500,000 from the drug industry, then voted against letting Medicare negotiate lower drug prices, and against capping the cost of insulin,
I knew exactly what that meant too.
Another politician voting to protect Big Pharma, instead of looking out for you.
