Washington, D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching its first ad across TV and digital in Iowa’s 2nd congressional district. The ad features Winneshiek County small business owner, Cheryl, who criticizes health care cuts that Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) voted for.
In the ad, Cheryl discusses a recent $10,000 health care bill she received and Congresswoman Ashley Hinson’s support for ending health care tax credits. Health care will be her businesses’ largest expense in the coming year, and Iowans across the district will face higher costs thanks to the elimination of health care tax credits that has doubled premiums for many Iowans.
According to Families USA and the Iowa Citizen Action Network, single Iowans in their mid-40s making $31,300 were expected to see their annual premiums increase by $1,344 in 2026. Couples in their early 60s earning $85,000 were set to see their annual premiums increase by $18,310. Small businesses across Iowa have also raised alarms about the impact of ending ACA tax credits on their ability to make ends meet.
“Cheryl is one of the many small business owners across Iowa struggling with higher health costs,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Iowans shouldn’t have to pay more because Republicans in Congress, like Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, decided to end the tax credits that helped them get the care they needed.”

Ad Transcript:
As a small business owner, health care is going to be one of our biggest expenses this year.
I ended up in the hospital in April.
And I got stuck with a bill for nearly $10,000.
But Republicans in Congress got rid of the health care tax credits,
causing health insurance premiums to skyrocket.
And Congresswoman Ashley Hinson supported it.
Insurance premiums doubled for too many Iowans.
Owning a small business is hard enough.
I don’t need high health care costs.
