NEW AD: Unrig Our Economy Calls Out Congressman Don Bacon for Voting to Gut Medicaid to Give Tax Breaks to Billionaires

Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching a new ad in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District calling out Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) for voting to leave millions of Americans, including 54,000 Nebraskans, without health care, so Republicans like Congressman Bacon can hand out yet another tax break to millionaires and billionaires. This ad comes as Senate Republicans seek to pass their version of the tax scam in the coming days. It features Sonita, who runs a nonprofit in Omaha and highlights how crucial Medicaid is to communities across Nebraska and the people she serves.

“As Sonita mentions in the ad, Nebraskan working- and middle-class families deserve access to the lifesaving health care that is provided through Medicaid,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Families who are already struggling with expenses shouldn’t have to worry about being able to afford their health care bills – all so Republicans in Congress can continue to line the pockets of billionaires. Congressman Bacon should be fighting for his constituents’ health care, not the ultra-wealthy.”

Ad Transcript:

Growing up in poverty definitely helps me understand things on a different level.

I run a nonprofit organization here in Omaha that truly helps children and families out of poverty.

I personally see what people are struggling with every day.

Paying for child care.

Paying for health care.

Paying for groceries.

Don Bacon voted for the biggest cut to Medicaid in history to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

While families like the ones I work with cannot even afford the health care that they need.

Our kids and our families deserve better.

We know that when the middle class does well, all of us do well — which is why we’re fighting on behalf of working Americans and holding corporations, their wealthy executives, and the politicians who enable them accountable.
