The Ad Comes As New Yorkers See Sky High 2026 Health Insurance Premiums Thanks to Congressional Republicans’ Blocking Of Health Care Tax Credits
Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy released a new ad calling out Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) for his vote to trade millions of Americans’ health care for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy, putting the livelihoods of New York families at risk. The ad features mother and daughter Tina and Dee, Westchester residents who rely on Medicaid to provide 102-year-old Dee with the care she needs. They call out Congressman Lawler for breaking his promise not to cut Medicaid and then voting to cut the program Dee relies on.
The ad comes during Open Enrollment as millions of New Yorkers who rely on ACA marketplace health care will see sky-high health insurance cost increases in 2026. Congressman Lawler helped congressional Republicans keep the government shut down rather than extend health care tax credits that help 140,000 New Yorkers afford their coverage.
“Congressman Lawler broke his promise and voted to rip health coverage away from hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers like Dee,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Instead of protecting New Yorkers’ health care, he voted to gut Medicaid just to bankroll more tax breaks for billionaires. Tina and Dee aren’t going to let Congressman Lawler get away with ripping away his constituents’ health care.”
