Washington, D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching a new ad with a seven-figure ad buy in Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District, holding Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) accountable for voting for the Republican Tax Law late last week. This law could leave 17 million Americans without health care while funneling billions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires. Yet, despite admitting this plan would strip health coverage from his constituents, Congressman Bresnahan voted to pass it.
The ad features Krysten, a Scranton, PA resident who relies on Medicaid and was told by Congressman Bresnahan that he would never cut Medicaid. The ad highlights how Medicaid is essential for Krysten’s medical care and calls on Congressman Bresnahan to stop supporting tax breaks for billionaires by gutting vital programs like Medicaid.
“Congressman Bresnahan looked his own constituents in the eyes and promised to protect Medicaid, then turned around and voted to gut it so billionaires could get another tax break,” said Kobie Christian, Unrig Our Economy spokesperson. “People like Krysten deserve health care and honesty, not cruel cuts and empty promises. Congressman Bresnahan should start fighting for his constituents, not the ultra-rich.”

Ad Transcript:
I sat in a meeting with Congressman Bresnahan.
We discussed some issues that I deal with myself.
And I had explained how important Medicaid is.
With him sitting straight across from me, he stated to me that he would not make cuts to Medicaid.
Afterwards, when the votes were done, when I found out how he voted, I was very upset to hear that Congressman Bresnahan voted for the largest cut to Medicaid in history.
To give tax breaks to billionaires.
This doesn’t make sense at all.
