NEW ADS: Unrig Our Economy Launches Ads Calling Out Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks For Putting Billionaires Over Iowa Families

Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching new radio and digital ads in Iowa’s First Congressional District calling out Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) for jeopardizing the health of her constituents by voting to cut Medicaid and SNAP – all so millionaires and billionaires can have another tax break. The ads feature Jennifer and Billy, both of whom know how critical Medicaid is.

Jennifer relies on Medicaid to help cover her medical bills as a result of her MS, and Billy is a social worker who has personally seen how Medicaid and SNAP make a difference in his community. Both share their stories of how Medicaid helps working-class Americans and call on Congresswoman Miller-Meeks to stop voting to cut Medicaid.

Since taking this vote Congresswoman Miller-Meeks has chosen to deflect and paper over her decision to take health care away from over 100,000 Iowans. She even tried to avoid one of her constituents who asked about her views on Medicaid and then flippantly claimed that, “no one cut Medicaid.” People like Jennifer and Billy know the truth – Medicaid is a lifeline for tens of thousands of Iowans and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks voted to cut it.

“Republicans sold out their constituents to do billionaires a favor and give them yet another handout,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “It is a fundamental betrayal of people like Jennifer and Billy. When Congresswoman Miller-Meeks sees these ads, we hope she realizes that the Republican Tax Law she voted for will hurt working-class people in her community. We need our members of Congress to stand up for their constituents – not the super-wealthy and giant corporations.”

When I was first diagnosed with MS, the pharmacy said my meds would be $2,000.

I just stood there and cried.

Then I got Medicaid, and it saved me.

Medicaid keeps me functioning, and it keeps me working.

I’ve been stable for over 10 years.

Our Congresswoman, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, voted for the largest cut in the history of Medicaid.

Why? So she can give a bunch of new tax breaks to billionaires.

Call Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Tell her to stop voting to cut Medicaid.

Hi, I’m Billy.

I’m a social worker, minister, and mental health therapist here in rural Iowa.

You know, folks here are struggling these days.

I see it day in and day out with my clients.

They rely on Medicaid for regular treatments so that they can live normal lives and SNAP to buy groceries.

So, when I heard that our Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks just voted to cut Medicaid and SNAP benefits, I was angry.

This is lifesaving care and how hundreds of thousands of people are able to put food on the table.

But apparently, it is more important to Miller-Meeks to give billionaires another tax break.

That’s right – Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks just voted to cut Medicaid and SNAP to give the ultra-wealthy a tax break.

It’s just wrong. The families I work with deserve better.

Call Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks at 563-232-0930.

And tell her not to take away Medicaid to give tax breaks to billionaires.
