Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy released new ads calling out Congressman Tom Kean Jr. (NJ-07) and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) for voting to cut Americans’ health care to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and putting the livelihoods of working families at risk.
The New Jersey ad features Roseanne, a constituent whose daughter relies on Medicaid for care and who feels betrayed by Congressman Kean Jr.’s vote to cut Medicaid. The Iowa ad features Billy, a social worker from Sigourney who has personally seen how Medicaid makes a difference in his community. He shares stories of how Medicaid helps children he has worked with and calls on Congresswoman Miller-Meeks to stop voting to cut Medicaid.
The ads come as Congressman Kean Jr. and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks continue to join congressional Republicans in keeping the government shut down instead of lowering health care costs for Americans who rely on health care tax credits to reduce their insurance premiums. Congresswoman Miller-Meeks even called health care tax credits for working-class families “a bailout.” More than 24 million Americans, including 350,000 New Jerseyans and 80,000 Iowans rely on health care tax credits to lower their insurance premiums.
“Congressman Tom Kean Jr. and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks sold out their constituents’ health care to hand out even more tax breaks to billionaires,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Now, they’re helping Republicans in Washington keep the government closed to block New Jerseyans and Iowans from receiving health care tax credits. Working people across the country, like Roseanne and Billy, will continue holding their representatives accountable for refusing to protect Americans’ health care and the future of America’s children.”
