New Ads: Unrig Our Economy Launches New Ads Calling Out Texas Republicans for Voting to Cut Medicaid

Washington, D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is a multi-million dollar TV and digital ad buy across multiple Texas congressional districts. These ads call out Congressman Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15), Congressman Lance Gooden (TX-05), and Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) for voting for the Republican Tax Law earlier this month and urge them to stop cutting Texans’ health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires.

These members promised their constituents that they would not vote to take away Medicaid. Nevertheless, all of them voted for the Republican Tax Law that could leave more than 15 million Americans without health care – all so millionaires and billionaires can get another tax break. In Texas, 1.7 million people could lose health insurance under the law. The ads hold these Republican members of Congress accountable for betraying their constituents to benefit the richest of the rich.

Polling shows that the Republican Tax Law is underwater – and 7 in 10 Americans are concerned by Republican cuts to Medicaid.

“We’re holding these members of Congress accountable for voting for the Republican Tax Law that strips health care away from millions of Texas families,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Unrig Our Economy has led the charge in holding Republicans in Congress that voted for this tax law accountable. These ads are just the latest in our nationwide campaign to show the horrible impacts of this law, which benefits the super-wealthy at working families’ expense.”

Here’s what Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz said in February…

[Female Narrator, Reading Letter]

“Slashing Medicaid would have serious consequences, particularly in rural and predominantly Hispanic communities where hospitals and nursing homes are already struggling to keep their doors open.”

But then, De La Cruz voted for “the largest Medicaid cut in history” …“to fund tax breaks for billionaires.”

She knew how badly it will hurt South Texas.

Tell Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz: Stop cutting health care.
