Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is releasing a new ad to call out Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) for voting to cut Medicaid in order to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. This latest ad is part of a multi-million dollar campaign to hold Texas Republicans accountable for voting for the Republican Tax Law earlier this month, urge them to stop cutting Texans’ health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires, and, instead, encourages them to support the Health Care Affordability Act of 2025 which would extend Affordable Care Act tax credits and protect affordable health care for working families.
Congressman Gonzales voted for the Republican Tax Law, which could leave 15 million Americans, including 1.7 million Texans, without health care – all so that he could hand billionaires yet another tax break. This law is deeply unpopular. 7 in 10 Americans are concerned about the law’s Medicaid cuts. This leads us to wonder: Do Republicans in Congress serve to protect their constituents or the richest of the rich?
“Congressional Republicans’ passed this ‘Reverse Robinhood’ scheme and traded working-class families’ health care for handouts for the ultra-wealthy,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “We’re holding Congressman Gonzales accountable to ensure he understands the harmful impacts of his vote. Millions will lose their health care and thousands will die because Congressman Gonzales voted to make the ultra-wealthy even wealthier instead of standing up for his constituents.”
