NEW ADS: Unrig Our Economy Urges Senators Susan Collins and Thom Tillis And Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks to Protect Medicaid Instead of Giving Tax Breaks to Billionaires

Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching three new ads in Maine, North Carolina, and Iowa urging Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) to oppose the Republican Tax Scam. This bill will cut Medicaid, leave 16 million Americans without health care, and raise costs on families – all to bankroll tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. These ads feature families who could be harmed by the Republican plan’s cruel cuts to lifesaving health care.

“Senator Collins, Senator Tillis, and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks are going to hear directly from constituents who rely on Medicaid as a ‘lifeline’ for themselves and their families,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Their stories highlight how crucial Medicaid is for working- and middle-class Americans who could otherwise be drowned in costly medical bills or forced to go without essential health care. Collins, Tillis, and Miller-Meeks need to remember Kasey, Ashley, Milo, Jennifer, and all the other families relying on Medicaid – because voting for the Republican Tax Scam risks the ‘lifeline’ they rely on in order to help billionaires who don’t need more tax breaks.”

Ad Transcript:

I have two children, a 7-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter.

They’re the loves of my life.

MaineCare has allowed us to access much needed services for my autistic son.

It’s life-changing.

Republicans in Congress are getting ready to cut Medicaid.

Senator Collins could be the deciding vote.

Protecting MaineCare is important.

It serves as a lifeline for thousands of families.

Cutting MaineCare to give tax breaks to billionaires; it’s disgusting.

Senator Collins shouldn’t put billionaires over families like mine.

Ad Transcript:

Milo was 1 pound, 2.7 ounces when he was born, and he spent 8 months in the NICU.

He does require 8 weekly therapy appointments and 7 medications daily that we manage.

Medicaid is so much more than I thought it was.

It’s a lifeline.

I want Senator Tillis to know it’s not about party.

It’s about people like Milo.

Billionaires do not need tax breaks.

My family needs Medicaid.

Ad Transcript:

My name is Jennifer and in 2007 I was diagnosed with MS.

I have been on medication for the last 10 years, that helps to manage my symptoms.

But it comes at a steep price, $10 to $13,000 per month.

Without the help of Medicaid, I just would not be able to afford it.

And I could relapse and end up physically disabled.

That’s why it terrifies me that our Congresswoman, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, just voted for the largest cut in the history of Medicaid.

This is life saving health care for me and countless other Iowans.

And it’s all so that Congressional Republicans can give a bunch of tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.

So what would losing Medicaid mean to me?

Choosing between rent and medicine.

Choosing between putting food on the table and a doctor’s visit.

Folks in Iowa need health care.

Billionaires don’t need yet another tax break.

Call Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks at (563) 232-0930 and tell her not to take away Medicaid, to give tax breaks to billionaires.
