NEW ADS: Unrig Our Economy’s Ads Urge Senator Susan Collins and Congressman Juan Ciscomani to Save Americans’ Health Care and End the Government Shutdown

Washington D.C — Today, Unrig Our Economy is launching two new six-figure ad buys in Arizona and Maine, calling out Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) for allowing the government to shut down rather than help save health care for millions of Americans. Republicans in Congress are refusing to support legislation that would both extend vital health care tax credits and end the government shutdown. These ads come as polling shows that more and more Americans support extending health care tax credits.

The ads include digital and radio spots in Maine and a digital spot in Arizona. Each features constituents from Senator Collins’ and Congressman Ciscomani’s districts, who highlight the dangerous ramifications congressional Republicans’ policies have on working families across the country.

The Maine ads feature Lisa, a mother of two in Hermon, ME whose premiums could go up to $1,500 a month – nearly triple what she’s paying now – if Republicans like Senator Collins don’t extend the vital health care tax credits that her family relies on. The Arizona ad features three Tucson, AZ residents – Mary, Garrett, and Andre. They each highlight how Congressman Ciscomani’s vote to cut Medicaid could affect the health care coverage Arizona families rely on and urge Congressman Ciscomani to stop taking health care away from Arizonans and end the government shutdown.

“With health care access for millions of Americans at risk, Republicans in Congress like Senator Susan Collins and Congressman Juan Ciscomani need to act now to make vital health care tax credits permanent and end the government shutdown,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Americans want Republicans in Congress to help them afford their health care, not hit them with higher premiums and a government shutdown.”

Ad Transcript:

We work hard to give our boys a good life.

We deserve to be able to have health insurance, so that we don’t have to worry about getting ill or getting injured.

If something happens to me or my husband, we won’t be there for our kids.

Susan Collins voted against helping my family afford health insurance.

If she keeps standing in the way, our premiums could go up to $1,500 a month.

Senator Collins, save our health care and end the shutdown.

Ad Transcript:

Lisa: We’re a pretty typical Maine family. Our boys are 10 and 13. They love to play hockey and soccer.

VO: That’s Lisa of Hermon, ME, mother of two.

Lisa: We work hard to give them a good life, but things could get a lot harder soon.

Susan Collins voted against helping my family afford health insurance, and now, if she keeps standing in the way, our premiums could go up to $1,500 a month. $1,500.

That’s more than triple what we pay now.

Where does she think we’re going to get the money for that?

And it’s not just us.

50,000 Mainers could see their premiums increase, and Mainers in rural areas could be hit the hardest.

Susan Collins is supposed to be this big, influential Senator. Well, it’s time for her to actually do something.

Call Senator Collins at (202) 224-2523 and tell her to vote to save our health insurance and end the shutdown.

Ad Transcript:

Mary: I’ve been really struggling the past few years.

Garrett: When I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, I had to go through physical therapy and AHCCS paid for all that.

Mary: Without Medicaid, I couldn’t afford my medical bills.

Andre: Cutting Medicaid just puts a huge stress on families.

Mary: Congressman Juan Ciscomani voted to cut Medicaid.

Andre: To pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

Garrett: Congressman Juan Ciscomani, my health care is more important than tax breaks for billionaires.

Call Congressman Juan Ciscomani (202) 225-2542.

Tell him to stop taking away health care and end the government shutdown.
