Washington, D.C. — Last week, Unrig Our Economy launched a radio ad featuring Sonita, the founder of an Omaha non-profit learning center, where she called out Congressman Don Bacon for voting for the largest Medicaid cut in history in order to fund more tax breaks for the wealthy.
Tuesday morning, the Congressman took to Twitter to let the world know he’s very upset about it.
Despite the Congressman’s attacks, Sonita isn’t backing down. And the facts are on her side.
- Non-partisan analyses have found that Congressman Bacon’s tax scam will rip health coverage from nearly 40,000 Nebraskans who rely on Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
- The American Hospital Association has warned that Congressman Bacon’s bill risks rural hospital closures across the country.
- A new study found that Congressman Bacon’s health care plan would lead to an additional 51,000 premature deaths each year.
A week before Sonita’s ad launched, Congressman Bacon’s Washington allies sent a threatening letter to a Nebraska television station for airing Audrey’s ad where she called out Congressman Bacon for voting to gut Medicaid, which her step-daughter and grandchildren rely on for their health care. The ad is still up despite the threats.
“Congressman Bacon voted to rip health insurance away from 40,000 Nebraskans – and his constituents aren’t going to let him hide that fact,” said Unrig Our Economy Spokesperson Kobie Christian. “No matter how much Congressman Bacon attacks them, Sonita and other parents, educators, seniors, and veterans won’t sit back and let their Congressman slash health care – all so that they can continue lining the pockets of the ultra-wealthy.”
