Washington, DC – After spending the last year voting to slash Medicaid and raise health care costs, Congressman Zach Nunn wants to “be very clear” that Republicans are not done attacking Americans’ access to care. At an event on Wednesday, Nunn said he wants to end the Affordable Care Act, declaring what he and Republicans in Congress are committed to: further ripping away health coverage millions rely on, pushing health care costs even higher, and taking away protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions.

Last year, Nunn and his House Republican colleagues voted for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history in order to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. Their Republican Tax Law already strips millions of working families of health coverage, puts hospitals across the country at risk of closure, and sends health care costs soaring. Now, as Iowans and Americans across the country struggle to afford health care, Nunn is doubling down and calling for ending the ACA, which tens of millions of Americans – including nearly 137,000 Iowans – rely on for health insurance. The Republican agenda would further raise health care costs, leave even more families without the coverage they depend on, and gut critical protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions.
“Congressman Nunn and his Republican colleagues voted for the largest cuts to health care in history, jeopardizing the care of working Americans in order to give more tax breaks to billionaires,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “Now, they’re doubling down on attacking Americans’ care by trying to dismantle the ACA. Americans don’t need higher costs and more barriers to coverage, they need Republicans in Congress to stop voting to take away their health care.”
