‘Republican Price Tag’ Campaign To Highlight Cost of Congressional Republican Policies & Demand Action During August Recess

Unrig Our Economy, Social Security Works, and Economic Security Project Action to Launch August Recess Campaign Highlighting $3,500 in Higher Costs Under Congressional Republicans

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Throughout August, Unrig Our Economy, Social Security Works, Economic Security Project Action, and local partners across the country will launch the ‘Republican Price Tag,’ a nationwide effort to highlight how Republican policies are driving up costs for working families.

The average household is paying an estimated $3,500 more for health care, food, energy, clothing, and other basic needs under President Trump and Republicans in Congress. Republicans in Congress gave massive tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations, and working families got stuck with the bill.

Republican-backed cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, the failure to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, higher tariffs, the unnecessary war in Iran, and other policies are making it harder for families to make ends meet. With members of Congress returning home for August recess, communities nationwide will hold events, share personal stories, and urge their representatives to take immediate action to lower costs.

The campaign will include events in key congressional districts throughout the month of August, local and national media engagement, digital content featuring Americans directly affected by rising costs, and a national press call welcoming Congress back in September.

Events will take place in the congressional districts listed below:

  • Alaska (AK-AL)
  • Arizona (AZ-01, AZ-02, AZ-06)
  • California (CA-28, CA-48)
  • Colorado (CO-08)
  • Iowa (IA-01, IA-03)
  • Michigan (MI-04, MI-07)
  • Montana (MT-01)
  • Nebraska (NE-01, NE-02)
  • New Jersey (NJ-07)
  • New York (NY-17)
  • Ohio (OH-07, OH-10, OH-15)
  • Pennsylvania (PA-07, PA-08, PA-10)
  • Texas (TX-15, TX-35)
  • Virginia (VA-01, VA-02)
  • Wisconsin (WI-01, WI-03)

“Families across the country are being forced to pay thousands of dollars more for health care, groceries, and gas, while Republicans in Congress continue handing out even more tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “The ‘Republican Price Tag’ campaign will give families a platform to demand action while their representatives are home for August recess.”

“Everywhere in America, I hear from people who are being crushed by rising healthcare costs,” said Social Security Works Executive Director Alex Lawson. “Hospitals are closing and families are going without the care they need, all so Republicans can give massive tax handouts to billionaires. Other costs, including food and gas prices, are also skyrocketing thanks to disastrous Trump policies like tariffs and the senseless war with Iran. We’re going to make sure that the members of Congress who support the policies making life unaffordable for their constituents are held accountable.”

Republicans made billionaires richer and Americans sicker,” said Anna Aurilio, Vice President of Economic Security Project Action. “Nearly half of Americans say they’re struggling to afford healthcare, cover their utility bills, buy groceries, and pay the rent. Instead of giving families the relief they desperately need, Republicans terminated healthcare for millions and made it more expensive for us all. Their signature bill, H.R.1, gutted Medicaid, raised utility costs, and jacked up student loan payments, and now the same lawmakers who voted for it stand idly by while President Trump sends gas prices soaring and calls the affordability crisis a hoax. It’s time to hold them accountable.”
