Washington D.C — Congressional Republican policies are already raising the cost of groceries, household appliances, home heating, and health care. Now working families can add high gas prices to the list of costs rising thanks to Republicans in Washington.
According to AAA, nationwide prices at the pump have already risen 27 cents per gallon since last week and many analysts expect them to continue rising. Reports suggest the Trump administration is in a ‘full-blown panic’ over the higher costs they’re imposing on Americans struggling to pay for the gas they need to get to work or take their kids to soccer practice.
Rising gas prices come as:
- 15 million Americans are projected to lose health insurance because of Republicans’ devastating cuts to Medicaid and decision to let ACA tax credits expire.
- Two-thirds of Americans now worry about being able to afford health care for themselves and their families.
- 4 million people are projected to see cuts to food assistance they rely on because of historic cuts to SNAP benefits.
- In 2025, American households lost an average of $1,000, in 2025 due to Republican tariffs.
“You can’t say congressional Republicans haven’t been thorough. Their policies have driven up the cost of food, holiday gifts, health care, and electricity for American families. Now Americans are being forced to pay more to fill up their cars,” said Unrig Our Economy Campaign Director Leor Tal. “If the congressional Republican agenda is to hand out tax breaks for billionaires and higher costs for working families, they deserve a gold star for a job well done.”
