Republicans’ Tax Policies in Action: Working Families Pay Always, Billionaires Pay Never

Washington, D.C. — According to a newly released Lending Tree survey, a growing number of Americans are being forced to use buy now, pay later (BNPL) loans to pay for essential items like groceries, and over 40% of BNPL loan users say that they have made a payment late. This is yet another signal that Republican-backed tariffs are raising costs and damaging the U.S. economy, leaving working families struggling to afford basic necessities.

While working families are buying now and paying later for everyday items like groceries, Republicans in Congress are looking to buy the ultra-rich another tax break on everyone else’s dime and pay for it never. Republicans in Congress are also pushing ahead with massive cuts to vital programs such as Medicaid and SNAP, threatening to leave working people without the essential health care and food assistance needed to support their families.

“Republicans would rather force Americans to take out a loan for their burrito instead of taxing the rich,” said Unrig Our Economy spokesperson Kobie Christian. “While working families nationwide are being forced to tighten their belts and finance everyday necessities, Republicans are moving forward with their backward scheme to give millionaires and billionaires massive tax breaks. Americans need a people-first economy, not a billionaire-first economy.”
